City Clerk

The City Clerk is entrusted with numerous and diverse duties. The city clerk shall act as clerk of the city council. The city clerk shall perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the City Manager under the direction of the Mayor and Council. The city clerk shall have custody of the public records of the city. The city clerk shall be the official custodian of the seal of the city and shall affix the seal to all instruments requiring the same. The city clerk is responsible for updating the city’s code of ordinances. In addition to serving as clerk of the city council and maintaining the official record of the minutes of Commission meetings, the City Clerk’s duties include but are not limited to, serving as election superintendent, preparing meeting agendas, processing legislation and agreements for signature by appropriate officials, and providing administrative support to the Council.

By Georgia State Law, Closed Session meetings are not open to the public. Members of the public may, however, address the City Council at regular meetings by completing a public comment card before the meeting. Each individual is allowed up to five minutes to speak. Often times, outside organizations, agencies and individuals request special presentations from the City Council. If you would like to request a proclamation or another form of public presentation, please complete a Request for Presentation(s) Form and submit it to the Office of the City Clerk. The City Council meets bi-monthly on the second and fourth Monday. The Planning & Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustments in the Council Chamber located in the City Hall Complex, 6690 Church Street, Riverdale, Georgia 30274. The Planning and Zoning Commission only meets when there is official business to be considered before its members. These meetings usually take place monthly on the third Monday. The Downtown Development Agency meets when there is official business to be considered before its members. These meetings usually take place monthly on the third Thursday. The Board of Appeals only meets when there is official business to be considered before its members. These meetings usually take place monthly on the fourth Monday.

You may access the City Council Agenda (online) for upcoming City Council meetings. This information is posted by the Friday prior to the scheduled Monday meetings. Copies of the agenda are also available from the City Clerk.

Community Development
|

Building permits are required before you construct, erect, enlarge, alter, move, convert or demolish any building or structure. Business permits are needed before you conduct business. Sign permits are need before you erect the sign.

Your bill will be charged by the Property Tax Department at $180.00 dollars per year.
|
|
|
Due to the individual needs of each project, and unanticipated events, inspectors must route themselves in four hour time frames. If you have a scheduling issue, we suggest you ask a trusted person over the age of eighteen to provide the inspector access. Fire Department
|

Reports can be obtained from Headquarters/Station 21 located at 6690 Church Street, or you can contact headquarter at 770-996-1912, ext 146 between the hours of 8:30 am and 5:00 pm.

Yes you will need a permit to burn. You can call Headquarters at 770-996-1912, ext 146, to receive a burn permit. Burn permits are given on a daily basis according to the Georgia Forestry warnings for that day. Please call on the day that you are planning to burn.

|
Come by either Station 21, located at 6690 Church Street, or Station 22, located at 7844 Taylor Road, between the hours of 8:00 am and 10:00 pm. If you come by for a blood pressure check after hours an ambulance will be called for you.
|
|
|
Yard debris, small limbs, pine straw and pine cones, and yard clippings. You are not allowed to burn any house hold garbage or building materials. You are not allowed to start the burns with flammable liquids, and you must stay with it until it has burned out; keep a water hose with you at all times. The fire must be out by dark on a daily basis.

Municipal Court
|
|
You will need to come by the Clerk of Court Office to complete a request for disposition form. Requests may take 3 business days to complete and certified copies are $5.00.

Approximately 7-10 business days after the citation(s) is issued you may call the court services department at 770-991-0462 ext 227 to ascertain your fine amount or you can check for this information by using our (online citation payments)service. There are instances in which fine amounts cannot be determined by court personnel and will require a court appearance. If this is the case the clerk will inform you of this.

When you fail to appear in court there is a contempt fee of 150.00 added to your case. Your driver’s license may be suspended or a warrant may be issued for your arrest. If you have missed court you will be required to pay the full amount of the citations along with the contempt fee before any warrants or suspension will be recalled.

Some cases require a court appearance and payments can not be made without coming to court. Most offenses can be paid prior to coming court; however, please call the court services department at 770-991-0462 ext 227 to ascertain whether or not the fine can be paid prior to coming to court. Cases not requiring a court appearanace can be paid (online).

We do not accept partial payments. All citations received must be paid for at the same time. Any other payment arrangments must be made in court.

All reports will be ready for pick-up four days after the report has been taken. The cost of a report is $.25 for a single-sided page and $.50 for a two-sided page. Only individuals involved in the accident or a family member can pick up a copy of the report.
