Qualifying for Public Office

Qualifications

Pursuant to the Riverdale City Charter the qualifications of mayor and council members shall be as follows:

  1. No person shall be eligible for the office of mayor or council of said city unless he/she shall have been a resident of said city for a period of one (1) year immediately preceding the time that he qualified to run for office; and
  2. Shall have attained or passed his twenty-first birthday (21); and
  3. Shall be a qualified voter in municipal elections for officers of said city; and
  4. Not convicted of any crime involving moral turpitude, and entitled to register under the registration laws which may be in force at that time in said city; and
  5. No person's name shall be placed on the ballot as a candidate for mayor or councilman unless such person shall have filed a Notice of Candidacy (click here) and shall have paid the qualifying fee to the city clerk of said city.
