About Riverdale Fire Services

Riverdale Fire Services (RFS) was founded in 1961 as a volunteer fire department. In 1972 the department became a fully paid department. Today, Riverdale Fire Services is a fully paid career department consisting of 30 members.

We provide fire and emergency medical response to an area of 4.5 miles with a diverse residential population of over 16,500. The City has a wide array of commercial and medical occupancies that substantially increase the daytime visitor population. Currently, RFS possesses an Insurance Services Offices (ISO) rating of 3. It is the goal of Riverdale Fire Services to improve upon this rating at every given opportunity.

Composition

Riverdale Fire Services is composed of three functional divisions:

  • Administration Division
  • Operations Division
  • Training Division

Administration Division consists of the Fire Chief, a Deputy Fire Chief, and an Administrative Assistant (AA). The Training Division consists of one Training Officer supported by the AA, and the Operations Division has 27 certified personnel that include:

  • 3 Battalion Chiefs
  • 6 Lieutenants
  • 6 Sergeants
  • 12 Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs)
